The Portuguese Way or Caminho Portugués is a fantastic route for pilgrims looking for a more rural experience on the Camino de Santiago. On the Portuguese Way route of the Camino de Santiago you will walk past terraced fields, lush forests vineyards and peaceful sleepy villages.

The great  majority of pilgrims begin either Porto, Portugal or in Tui, Spain (at the border). The last 100km of the Camino Portugués is the most popular section, starting in Tui, Galicia, just across the Tajo river from Portugal.

Weather and when to go. Northern Portugal and Galicia are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean resulting in a changeable maritime climate.  It ensures a generous rainfall, hence the references to ‘Green Portugal and Green Spain’.  Spring is a rewarding time to experience cool weather and fresh growth, whilst early autumn is regarded as being fairly dry and settled.  Summer can be hot with periods of high humidity and facilities are usually crowded during the peak holiday months
