From La Rioja to Castilia region. Meet the famous rooster from Santo Domingo de la Calzada; the legend tells he sung after roasted. This land is considered a Spanish (Castilian) language cradle.

Day 1
Logroño

Logroño is the capital of the La Rioja – famous wine producer zone. What about a glass of excellent red wine in the heart of La Rioja before you start your pilgrimage?

Day 2
Nájera

Starting with a long stage: 30 kms (18,5 miles). The good information: the terrain is flat. You will discern Nájera on the horizon 2 hours before reaching the town. There is an option to divide this walk in 2 days and stay in Navarrete.

Day 3
Santo Domingo de la Calzada

This part is easier – only 22 km (13 miles). Santo Domingo de la Calzada is famous due to the rooster that sung before roasted. There are many versions of the legend but at the end the rooster always proves the innocence of the poor pilgrim accused of the theft. Every sign in the town will remind you of this legend.

Day 4
Belorado

Belorado is a medieval village located in a shadow of a hill peak. You can also visit the castle ruins and the hermitage.

Day 5
Juan de Ortega

San Juan de Ortega was a friend and disciple of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Now both of them have towns baptised with their names on the Camino de Santiago. Stop by the monastery of San Juan de Ortega.

Day 6
Burgos

After 26 km (16 miles) of pilgrimage you will be amazed by the sight of Burgos Cathedral. The legendary medieval Spanish hero – El Cid is buried in this beautiful gothic Cathedral.
